Launch of ‘Fields and Woods’

Most of what you will see from Nature Chain is about gardening for wildlife, but, of course, our gardens sit within the wider countryside and help create corridors between those larger patches of land.

Therefore Nature Chain is also working with owners of larger plots to see if we can help them manage their land in a more wildlife friendly way.  We are calling this ‘Fields and Woods’.

This initiative started on 20 April 2021 with a Zoom call amongst nine owners of largely non-commercial land in and around Freshford and Limpley Stoke.  Many already encourage wildlife, so this was an opportunity to share experience and also to identify common areas where cooperation might help.  The main issue identified was difficulty in achieving the best mowing or grazing regimes for their meadows – actions to follow up on possible shared mowing machines and/or sheep are being taken forward.
