Monitoring Wildlife

Monitoring our Wildlife

Wouldn't it be good to know what species we are helping by gardening in a more wildlife friendly way? We welcome any observations and photographs of what you have seen in your gardens – please email them to thenaturechain@gmail.com. We would also encourage you to take part in surveys of plants and animals so that we can build up a picture of what species we have in our valley. We will start by joining in a national survey and also try to make our own mini observation project in Limpley Stoke and Freshford.

Recording Occasional Observations

If you'd like to record any observations of plants and animals as and when you see them, there are numerous phone apps that facilitate this. The Nature Chain team has been using iNaturalist, which helps with identification. If you also use iNaturalist, we will be able to see any observations you record on a map and we’ll summarise what people have seen in Freshford and Limpley Stoke periodically.

It has a sister app, called Seek, which is probably more fun for children and can either be linked to iNaturalist or kept offline if you prefer (though those observations will not appear on the map).
